There is a decades old joke about a certain
wise man being asked what one would get if a loaf of bread was divided into
two. “Halves”, he said. Into four? With a smile he said quarters. When the
figure got to 8 pieces, with a massive laugh he bellowed, anenge ava mafufu ka!
Imvuthu, or breadcrumbs is what comes to mind when one thinks of MDC A, MDC B,
MDC C, MDC D, MDC E, etc. Some have since come up with more creative names but
it's all mafufu by different names.
Some suspect that a
certain young MP within one of the MDCs is still seething from missing out on
an influential post within the party. Is it possible that yet another MDC is
waiting in the wings? It has also been reported that the former Secretary
General of the Ncube led MDC (That must be MDC Ncube, formerly known as MDC
Mutambara) has left the party along with about 70 other members. Curiously,
Moses Mzila Ndlovu and Lutho Tapela who was Deputy Minister of Education during
the coalition government were among the group who announced their departure in
a room over 100 people. When most people leave political parties they do it
individually. When a group make a joint announcement one can't be blamed for
thinking that another announcement is imminent. Are they forming another MDC or
joining a different one? Maybe they are coming to ZANU PF! Who can blame them?
The people of
Bulawayo seem to have lost all faith in the Ncube led MDC. It can't be easy
supporting a party which couldn't get any of their MPs re-elected at the last
elections. To further worsen matters, the party’s only prominent voice in
parliament is Senator Misihairambwi-Mushonga. We like to give credit where it’s
due, Senator Mushonga stunts and controversial statements have made her voice
louder. This should pacify those that believed her appointment as a
Proportional Representation senator ahead of local candidates was favouritism
by Welshman Ncube.
The 2013 intake of
ZANU PF have proven themselves worthy of the people’s vote. We have ZANU PF MPs
doing the job of the opposition by asking hard questions from ministers and
demanding accountability. When politicians put aside party affiliation and
continue to demand progress you know who’s in it for the people. Within ZANU PF
we need to continue monitoring the work of our own MPs within the August House
and at Constituency level.
With such little
input from the various MDCs in parliament, some within their strongholds start
wondering if they asked for bread and are getting breadcrumbs
